October’s ‘free’ PlayStation Plus games include F1 25
Sony's October PlayStation Plus lineup adds F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2.

Sony has announced the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for October, adding F1 25, Hunt: Showdown 1896 and Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2 to the subscription service, according to the PlayStation Blog. All three titles will be available to PlayStation Plus members from Tuesday, October 6, until Monday, November 2. Members have until Monday, October 5, to add last month's offerings, Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes, to their libraries before they are replaced, PlayStation said.
F1 25 is described by PlayStation as the official video game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, featuring single-player Career and My Team 2.0 modes that let players act as the owner of a Formula 1 team. It also includes online play and a new multiplayer mode called F1 World, where players race as a squad against AI drivers. IGN called it "a far broader and better package than last year's installment," and said it is "comfortably the strongest the series has been since the fan favourite F1 2020," in a review that gave the game an 8/10.
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is Crytek's extraction shooter, which PlayStation describes as pitting players, alone or with up to two teammates, against monsters and other Hunters to track down bosses and claim bounties. IGN noted that this PS5 version also includes a battle royale mode, and that the original game launched in early access back in 2018. IGN's review of Hunt: Showdown 1896 awarded it a 7.5/10.
Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, available for PS4 and PS5, is a third-person shooter with local and online co-op in which players select four teammates from a collected roster to battle giant enemies attacking a voxel version of Earth. According to PlayStation, the game includes soldiers from the mainline EDF series and its spin-offs, along with redesigned voxel versions of past enemies and new foes unique to this release. It supports four-player online co-op and two-player local split screen.
PlayStation also outlined additional October content tied to the Halloween season. A Spider-Man: Brand New Day film release on Sony Pictures Core on October 6 will come with limited-edition avatars for PlayStation Plus members, and the company listed horror-themed in-game item bundles for other PS5 and PS4 games, including a Call of Duty: Warzone Horror Bundle available October 1, a Hunt: Showdown 1896 Starter Pack available October 6, and an Overwatch 2 Dragur Reinhardt pack with five tier skips available October 7.
Why it matters
The lineup determines which games PlayStation Plus subscribers can add to their libraries at no extra cost for a full month, with last month's titles set to be removed from new-member access after October 5.
