24 Jump Street gets December 2027 release date, Original Cast Returning

Sony has set 24 Jump Street for release on December 10, 2027, with Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ice Cube all returning, according to IGN and Deadline. The announcement came Wednesday as part of a batch of release-date additions and changes Sony made while major theater chains gathered in town for Cinema United's Fall Summit, Deadline reported.

The film is actually the third entry in the franchise despite its title, IGN noted. A planned third movie in the 2010s would have crossed the Jump Street characters over with Men in Black, but those plans fell apart, according to IGN.

Rodney Rothman, who directed Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is helming the new film from a script he wrote with Jonah Hill and Meghan Malloy, Deadline reported. Producers include Neal H. Moritz, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Tatum and Hill, per Deadline. Deadline also reported that 24 Jump Street is currently the only title dated for December 10, 2027.

IGN reported that it is unclear who else will be cast or what the plot involves, though the outlet speculated that the long gap since the earlier films makes it unlikely the leads could plausibly pass as students again. IGN also noted the first two films already made jokes about the pair looking too old to go undercover as teenagers.

Sony's slate of date moves announced the same day also included Ridley Scott's Treasure Island, starring Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver, which Deadline and Variety both reported will open November 11, 2027. Variety reported that Sony dated Roshan Sethi's The Surgeon, starring Michelle Yeoh, for April 2, 2027, and the comedy Narcs, starring Mason Thames, for August 20, 2027. Two other titles had their dates shifted: Grandgear moved from February 18, 2028 to January 14, 2028, and Helldivers moved from November 10, 2027 to June 9, 2028, according to Variety and Deadline. IGN noted that 24 Jump Street's December 10, 2027 date currently places it close to Avengers: Secret Wars, which the outlet said could mean steep competition unless Marvel moves that film's date.
