The Amazing Race returned for its 39th season with a two-night premiere on CBS on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and Thursday, Oct. 1, at 9:30 p.m. PT/ET, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Following the premiere week, new 90-minute episodes will air weekly on Wednesdays at the same time, directly after Survivor, the outlet reported.

The season marks the show's 25th anniversary and follows a celebratory anniversary TV special, The Hollywood Reporter said. Rolling Stone reported that 13 teams will race across nine countries, including Morocco, Sri Lanka, Australia, Canada and, for the first time, Albania, with season 39 also being the first without a stop in the contiguous United States. The winning team will take home a grand prize of $1 million, Rolling Stone reported.

Viewers without cable have several ways to stream the season, both outlets reported. The Hollywood Reporter named DirecTV, Fubo and Hulu + Live TV as streaming services carrying CBS live, while Rolling Stone added YouTube TV as another option and noted that new episodes will also be available on-demand on Paramount+ the day after they air on CBS.

Pricing and trial details vary by outlet and service. The Hollywood Reporter reported that DirecTV offers a five-day free trial with plans starting at $19.99 per month, and that Hulu + Live TV offers a three-day free trial with plans starting at $89.99 per month, bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+. Rolling Stone, however, reported DirecTV plans start at $44.99 a month with a five-day free trial and discounts on the first two to six months, Fubo starts at $64.99 a month after a five-day free trial, YouTube TV starts at $71.99 a month after a trial of seven to 21 days, and Paramount+ starts at $8.99 a month with no free trial.

Phil Keoghan returned as host for the new season, Rolling Stone reported. Filming took the cast to Keoghan's hometown of Christchurch, New Zealand, which the outlet said was personally significant to him since he had vowed to bring the show there after the city was mostly destroyed in a 2011 earthquake, once it was rebuilt.

Keoghan also described Albania as "fascinating" in comments to Parade, cited by Rolling Stone: "I had no idea that they had over 150 to 200,000 underground bunkers that were set up for the Cold War." He added, "Thank God none were ever used because of a nuclear explosion."
